The Luxury Gourmet Cycle Tour is designed for the cyclist who enjoys the finer things in life. From the historic city of Pamplona to Logroño, the capital of La Rioja in seven easy cycling days, together with our guide, you will discover ancient villages, taste the world`s best wines, visit the stunning wine museum in Briones and the undeground wine cellers of Laguardia, visit the world famous bodega of Marqués de Riscal and cycle part of the world famous Saint James Way. The diverse landscapes of rolling fields and vineyards surrounded by majestic mountains are only interrupted by fine wine tasting and luxurious picnics on the way. You will be staying in ancient monasteries, small and luxurious boutique hotels and in the evening you will enjoy the best local cuisine. The route mainly runs along small asphalt backroads, rural paved roads and, occasionally, on dirt roads.
We meet at Pamplona for our welcome meeting. Our guide will explain the tour and after a “pinxos” lunch in a typical tapas bar, we visit the town with a local guide who tells us about the history, the running of the bull tradition and funny stories of Pamplona. We dine in a restaurant famous for its traditional recipes with a modern twist.

El Camino de Santiago – The Way of Saint James
Distance: 48km
Our first day on the bike and we will cycle along the "Camino de Santiago" on rural backroads. We cross the enigmatic village of Puente La Reina that was built to accommodate pelgrims. We cross the ancient bridge, continue towards Muruzábal, where we take a small detour to visit the beautiful church of Santa María de Eunate. Medieval and picturesque villages are dotted along the route. After a superb picnic, we continue along the ancient Roman road crossing rolling fields and vinyeards until we arrive at the beautiful village of Estella. We stay at an ancient factory where we enjoy the excellent local cuisine.
Cycling in Wine Country
Distance: 40km
We leave Estella along a rural road that take us to the ancient monastery of Ayegui, where we can have a glass of wine from the “wine fountain”. We cycle along medieval fountains, ancient bridges, temples and chapels. We can feel the history as we cycle along a route that has been used be pilgrims for centuries. We will spend the night in an ancient palace in the town of Viana.
Tapas and wine
Distance: 35km
Today’s route will take us from Viana to the village of Laguardia, one of Spain´s most beautiful villages and known for its underground bodegas. From this point, we will enter into the characteristic landscape of La Rioja, the vineyards. Once settled in the hotel, we will go for a walk around the medieval village of Laguardia (10th Century) and we will visit the small winery “El Fabulista”, with the typical “calados” where the wines rest to get all the flavours. For dinner, we will enjoy a fabulous tasting menu.
A Sea of Vineyards
Distance: 32km
We cycle out of Laguardia and cycle passed the Ysios Winery, designed by the architect Calatrava and one of the insignias of La Rioja. We continue along the magnificent landscape of the Riojan vineyards, with the majestic mountains of the Basque country in the distance. We will cross rural villages with stone houses and small churches, until we reach the town of Haro, perched on a mountain edge. We will take a guided tour in the bodega of Muga. We will enjoy a typical and traditional dinner. Accommodation in the ancient monastery of Los Agustinos, dating back to 1373.
The Wine Museum of Briones
Distance: 34 km
From Haro to Briones, the rolling countryside is dominated by vineyards. At Briones, we visit the amazing Wine Culture Museum, created by the Vivanco Dinasty. From Briones, the landscape of vineyards makes way for endless fields. Our destination is the village of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, a village linked to the Way of Saint James from its origins back in the 11th Century. We stay at the ancient monastery and dine in a magnificent restaurant where we will enjoy the tasting menu.
The Way of Saint James in La Rioja
Distance: 55 km
We follow the Way of Saint James, where we will probably meet some pilgrims doing the French way. The road goes up and down following the undulating landscape of La Rioja. We head towards the Ezcaray Mountains until we reach the Monastery of San Millán. This is where the Spanish language was “born” and we will have a chance to admire the most ancient books written in Spanish. From this point we will go to the East via a beautiful ancient path between old vineyards and with stunning views of La Rioja. We continue to Najera, where we spend the night.
Along the mighty river Ebro
Distance: 37 km
Cycling through the majestic landscape of vineyards, fields and mountain ranges, we make our way to the village of Elciego, where we will visit one of the most famous wineries of La Rioja, Marqués de Riscal, designed by the architect Frank Gueri. We leave Elciego and cycle along the Ebro River until we reach Logroño. Accommodation in Logroño, very close to the town centre and the Calle Laurel, a street famous for its tapas and wine bars. We will go for a stroll around the town and taste the “tapas and pinchos” of the Calle Laurel. In the evening we will enjoy a last but not least dinner in a famous chef’s restaurant.
Free day in Logroño and transfer to the airport of Bilbao or Pamplona.
